WWE star, 29, has lost all feeling in legs due to devastating injury
by Alistair McGeorge · MetroWWE superstar Wes Lee has been pulled from this weekend’s NXT Deadline event due to a heartbreaking injury.
The 29-year-old wrestler was due to face Dominik Mysterio for the North American Title, but he announced on Tuesday’s NXT show that he needs to step away from the ring as he has no feeling in his legs.
In emotional scenes, Lee was fighting back tears as he admitted support from the fans ‘won’t help’ with his devastating and legitimate injury.
‘That support won’t help me right now,’ he candidly told the fans.
‘It won’t bring back the feeling to my legs, and it will not eliminate the excruciating pain that I am in just by standing in the ring talking to you right now.’
Commentator Vic Joseph confirmed to viewers that Wes needs back surgery and will be out of action for eight to 12 months.
Fans are rallying behind the rising star, who has previously held the NXT North American and NXT Tag Team Titles, and hoping for a ‘speedy recovery’.
‘Man, this sucks. What happened to him? I hope he has a speedy recovery. The man has tons of years left in his career,’ one viewer wrote, as another added: ‘Damn that sucks to hear man. Was one of those guys I loved to watch wrestle. Wishing him the best.’
A third person added: ‘For real. This is rough. Dude is so talented and fun to watch. Hope he handles this and comes back stronger.’
After announcing his very real injury, the consummate professional used his heartbreak as part of the show, with Dominik Mysterio coming down to gloat about not having an opponent for Deadline on Saturday night.
However, Dom’s Hall of Famer dad Rey Mysterio – who is currently out of action with his own injury – appeared on the big screen and announced his son will instead have to face SmackDown star Dragon Lee this weekend.
NXT Deadline airs Saturday (December 9) at 1am on the WWE Network.
