Nvidia to discontinue GeForce RTX 3050 8 GB production and replace it with 6 GB variant

A while ago, we reported that Nvidia planned to port the laptop version of the GeForce RTX 3050 over to desktops. However, the original GeForce RTX 3050 desktop with 8 GB VRAM will soon be a relic of the past. The folks over at the Board Channels forum (via Videocardz) say that Nvidia plans to replace the GeForce RTX 3050 8 GB version with the 6 GB variant.

Nvidia has asked OEMs to replace the existing GeForce RTX 3050 8 GB (US$229 on Amazon) assembly lines with the 6 GB version. The former will be sold until stocks last, after which the latter will be the only RTX 3050 variant on the market. A corresponding price reduction could put the graphics card in the highly competitive sub-US$200 segment.

The GeForce RTX 3050 6 GB features a GA107-325 GPU with 2,560 CUDA cores and can boost up to 1,470 MHz with a max TGP of 70-100 Watts. Its bus-width will presumably be restricted to 96-bit. Nevertheless, with no GeForce RTX 4050 in sight, it seems to be the closest thing Nvidia will launch to an affordable graphics card in 2024.
