- Shah Rukh Khan spoke about 'Dunki' during an 'Ask SRK' session on X.
- He replied to a fan who asked him about his film's promotions.
- 'Dunki' also stars Taapsee Pannu, Vicky Kaushal, and others.
Ever since 'Pathaan', Shah Rukh Khan has changed his promotional strategy for films. The superstar refrains from interviews or pre-release press meets, however, interacts with his fans via fun 'Ask SRK' sessions on X. This continued for 'Jawan' too, and now, 'Dunki'. When King Khan was asked if the film should have promotions, he had a heartfelt reply.
SRK ON WHETHER 'DUNKI' SHOULD BE PROMOTED
An X user asked Shah Rukh Khan if 'Dunki' might need promotions. He replied, "Meri har film ko aapke pyaar ki zaroorat hai promotion ki nahi. #Dunkitrailer (sic)", loosely translated to English as 'All my films need your love, not promotions'.
Here is his tweet:
A fan also asked him what 'Dunki' means. To this, he said, "Dunki is actually the Donkey Journey across borders without permits. In punjabi dialect they pronounce it Dunki (sic)."
CHANGE IN PROMOTIONAL STRATEGY IS WORKING FOR SRK
The last time that Shah Rukh Khan held press conferences and gave interviews prior to his film's release was for ‘Zero’ in 2018. For ‘Pathaan’, the actor took a chance and went sans conferences and hosted one only after the film opened big. Same for 'Jawan'. And it worked!
Is the new promotional strategy actually helping SRK films? Trade analyst Akshaye Rathi tells IndiaToday.in, “The fact that there's no dilution of communication that's happening through any of these mediums is working great because of the unfortunate incident that happened before the release of ‘Pathaan’; there are sections of the media that would be irresponsible in taking that as the first question rather than speaking about the film. That's why it makes sense that if you want access to Shah Rukh Khan, you have it on the screen. So go and watch him there and enjoy his movies. That's a strategy that seems to be followed.”
He further added, “It's each person’s own call. Shah Rukh Khan doesn’t need to do interviews or go to any of these TV shows to create awareness about the existence of ‘Jawan’ because every single person who wants to watch ‘Jawan’ in this country knows that is coming to theatres on September 7. But for ‘SatyaPrem Ki Katha’ or ‘Zara Hatke Zara Bachke’, as important for them to be all over the place, go to TV shows that are popular and to promote hyper-ballistically and even roll out promotional schemes because they need that. Those are films that need awareness drives to create anticipation and excitement and the need to consume in theatres.”
'Dunki' releases in theatres on December 21, a day before Prabhas' 'Salaar'.
