Boris Johnson interrupted seconds into UK Covid Inquiry as people removed from room

Boris Johnson was interrupted by protesters just seconds into his appearance at the UK Covid Inquiry.

Ushers were ordered to remove four people from the hearing room by inquiry chair Baroness Heather Hallet as Johnson began his evidence.

The former Tory Prime Minister said he was “sorry” for the “pain and the loss and the suffering” as he began giving evidence.

He was then interrupted by multiple people, who were told repeatedly by Hallet to sit down or that they would be removed.

Eventually Hallet had to call in ushers to eject them from the hearing room.

It came as the former prime minister offered an apology to victims and their families, as be began two days of evidence in front of the probe.

Johnson said: “Can I just say how glad I am to be at this inquiry and how sorry I am for the pain and the loss and the suffering of the Covid victims."

The ex-MP will face questions over the next couple of days about his handling of the pandemic.

The Scottish Covid Bereaved said they expected him to give "a grotesque distortion of the truth" when he gives evidence.

Johnson was UK Prime Minister during the pandemic.

He was widely criticised after it emerged that Downing Street staff had thrown parties while the country was locked down.

He was given a fine for being at some gatherings.

Johnson has also been criticised for not locking down fast enough, for not following scientific advice and for not being cautious enough.

He allegedly said "let the bodies pile high" when emphasising that he did not want another lockdown.
