Govt unlocking J&K’s employment potential: Nityanand Rai - Greater Kashmir

New Delhi, Dec 6: Minister of State (MoS) for Home Affairs, Nityanand Rai Wednesday said that the government was unlocking employment potential in Jammu and Kashmir.

Highlighting the achievements of the government in a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha, Rai signalled a positive trajectory for employment
and economic growth in Jammu and Kashmir

“Since 2019-20, an investment of Rs 5319 crore has materialised, injecting vitality into the local economy, and opening avenues for increased employment,” he said. “To address unemployment challenges in J&K, the government has rolled out a multifaceted strategy to create employment opportunities and foster economic growth. The measures, implemented since 2021-22, have resulted in the generation and strengthening of 7.4 lakh self-employment and livelihood opportunities.”

Self-Employment Schemes

The minister said various self-employment schemes had been introduced across sectors, empowering the youth to establish sustainable income-generating ventures. “The initiatives have yielded 7.4 lakh opportunities for unemployed youth.

Mission Youth’s New Schemes: Innovations like Mumkin, Tejaswani, and Spurring Entrepreneurship under Mission Youth have been launched to facilitate the establishment of business units and sustainable livelihood projects, including in the transport sector,” he said.

JOB FAIRS AND PLACEMENT DRIVES

Rai said that job fairs and placement drives conducted at divisional and district levels had provided a platform for unemployed youth and potential employers.
“Over the last two years, 151 job fairs saw the participation of 1631 companies, enhancing job placement opportunities,” he said.

SKILL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMMES

The minister said that skill development programmes introduced in FY 2023-24 aim to bridge skill gaps among the youth, enhancing their employability.

“Several other schemes like career counselling and awareness camps, rozgar drives, industrial development schemes and others have been introduced and are successful,” he said.
