Man arrested after 'suspicious package' found in Bristol city centre bin

One man has been arrested after police officers flocked to Cabot Circus following reports a "suspicious package" had been found in a bin at the shopping centre. Eyewitnesses report there is a large police presence at neighbouring shopping centre The Galleries this afternoon (December 6) while the unknown item is assessed.

An eyewitness told BristolLive part of The Galleries had been cordoned off by Avon and Somerset Police officers. The cordon is in place outside the shopping centre, before the Quakers Friars area, according to reports.

Ambulance crews have also been seen entering Cabot Circus, though it is currently unknown if this is related to the ongoing incident. One man has been arrested on suspicion of a public order offence and enquiries are continuing into the incident, a spokesperson for the police force said.

A police spokesperson said: "Emergency services are currently responding to reports of a suspicious package being left in bin at Cabot Circus Shopping Centre in Bristol. As a precaution, a cordon has been put in place around the bin while the item is assessed.

"A man has been arrested on suspicion of a public order offence. Enquires are ongoing."
