DWP Cold Weather Payments: Full list of 309 postcode areas across UK eligible

The DWP has added parts of the East Midlands to the list of areas - affecting 11,000 people

Cold Weather Payments are to be made to people living in more areas across the UK due to the colder weather we are experiencing in this country. Last week the Department of Work and Pensions announced that the threshold for the £25 payments had been triggered in 280 areas benefiting over 580,000 people, Manchester Evening News reports.

Since then further areas have been triggered bringing the total to 309 and on Wednesday, December 6, the DWP has added parts of the East Midlands to the list of areas - affecting 11,000 people.

The £25 payment is paid to those on benefits to help them stay warm, including Pension Credit, Income Support, income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA), income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA), Universal Credit, Support for Mortgage Interest.

They are triggered when the average temperature in an area is recorded as or forecasted to be zero degrees celsius or below for seven consecutive days.

Recipients will be automatically paid £25 for each 7 day period of cold weather running across the winter period between 1 November 2023 and 31 March 2024. If you have not received the payment and believe you should have, then you should tell the Pension Service or Jobcentre Plus. In the case that you are receiving Universal Credit, the government advises you to log into your online account and add a note to your journal - otherwise, you can call the Universal Credit helpline whose number appears on letters regarding your Universal Credit claim.

Last year more than 5.5 million Cold Weather Payments were made by the DWP.
