This is the second spell of bad weather to hit parts of the country after Ireland experienced it's first cold snap of the winter season last week.
Met Eireann warns: "Spells of heavy rain spreading eastwards will be accompanied by strong and gusty southeasterly winds," adding that localised flooding, difficult travelling conditions and poor visibility are all potential impacts.
The UK Met Office has also issued a similar weather warning for Antrim, Armagh, Down, Tyrone and Derry.
"Heavy rain on Wednesday evening into the start of Thursday likely to cause travel disruption in a few places," experts say.
This is valid from 7pm this evening until 4am tomorrow.
A change from recent bitter conditions, today (Wednesday December 6) will be mild, wet and windy.
Met.ie says: "Rain and drizzle will be most frequent in Ulster this morning and patchy elsewhere.
"More persistent rain will extend across the country from the southwest this afternoon and evening, with thunderstorms possible too.
"Rain will be heavy at times, especially in the south and southeast where spot flooding is possible.
"Highest afternoon temperatures of 6 to 11 degrees with fresh to strong and gusty southeasterly winds, very strong for a time in the southwest."
These conditions are likely to continue overnight, with one part of the country being most affected.
"Wet and windy over the eastern half of the country early tonight, with fresh to strong and gusty southeasterly winds. Lighter winds and patches of light rain or drizzle elsewhere.
"The rain and strong winds will clear from most areas overnight but will persist near the east coast. More rain will develop in the southwest by morning. Lowest temperatures of 5 to 11 degrees."
Tomorrow will be similar on the weather front.
The current forecast reads: "It will turn wet and quite windy again for a time tomorrow, with spot flooding possible. A band of rain and fresh to strong southeasterly winds will move northeastwards across the country during the morning and afternoon.
"The rain will be followed by sunny spells, scattered showers and fresh to strong and gusty south to southwest winds. Highest temperatures of 9 to 13 degrees."
