Tributes have been paid to a 21-year-old woman who died suddenly at a music event. Police are continuing to investigate after Olivia Spencer became ill at a techno event.

She is said to have been 'immediately' taken to an onsite medic before emergency services arrived at the venue. But tragically she could not be saved.

Loved ones have described how Ms Spencer was 'one of a kind with a heart of pure gold' and 'lit up every room she walked into'. The incident happened at Vaults - an underground dance venue in Bute Street, Cardiff - where techno DJ and producer Azyr had been playing in the early hours of Saturday, December 2.

In a statement released by police, her family said: "We as a family are absolutely devastated, Olivia was one of a kind with a heart of pure gold, she lit up every room she walked into with her funny, bubbly personality. She will be missed by all who knew her."

South Wales Police said it is continuing to investigate Ms Spencer's sudden and unexplained death, WalesOnline reports. Greg Dix, executive director of nursing at Cwm Taf Morgannwg UHB, also paid tribute to Ms Spencer, from Pentre, Rhondda, South Wales.

He said: "We are deeply saddened to hear about Olivia’s tragic death and extend our heartfelt condolences to her family at this immensely difficult time. Olivia was hugely valued by the team on Ward 14 at Royal Glamorgan Hospital, where she was loved by staff and patients alike, and we are supporting her close colleagues as they come to terms with her passing.

"We pay tribute to Olivia for her enthusiasm, her passion for her role and the impact she made in just a short time at our health board." Another event scheduled to take place at the venue on Saturday night was cancelled.

A South Wales Police spokesperson said: "South Wales Police is continuing to investigate the sudden and unexplained death of a 21-year-old woman who was taken ill at a music event in Butetown, Cardiff, during the early hours of Saturday morning." There are no suspicious circumstances and a file is being prepared on behalf of HM Coroner, the force added.

Vaults Cardiff also expressed its 'deepest condolences' in an Instagram post. The club said: "As a venue, we are absolutely heartbroken."

Concerns were raised for an individual 'who was immediately taken to the onsite medic for medical assistance'. Paramedics arrived 'within minutes', the club said.

But 'tragically the person passed away despite every effort from the medical staff', the BBC reports. The club added: "We would like to send our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the individual and offer our continued support during this tragic time.

"Safety is our number one priority as a venue, and we will continue to implement our strict policies through our upcoming events."
