X Factor's Rebecca Ferguson says 'senior music mogul' forced himself into her house and sat with her child

The X Factor's Rebecca Ferguson has claimed a 'senior music industry mogul' forced his way into her home and sat with her child, whilst she was in the shower.

It comes after the singer has been vocal about her negative experience in the music industry since finding fame on the ITV reality series. Rebecca, now 37, finished in second place on The X Factor when she took part back in 2010 but has since spoken out about the toxic side of the business.

Rebecca says her criticism of the music industry came at a price as an unnamed 'powerful' industry person entered her house back in 2017 without her asking, and even spoke to her child whilst she was in the shower. The singer said the terrifying incident left her living in fear.

Speaking to Metro, Rebecca said: "It comes back to very senior people in the industry. This incident was one of many incidences in my career of living in fear of these very, very, very powerful men. I was a girl that wasn’t in the public eye. Let’s say I was your next-door neighbour, who works in an office.

"If someone from her office forced their way into her home on a Sunday morning, and sat while she was in the shower, chatting to her child, there would be uproar. There would be absolute uproar. If that same woman was getting calls from the police to say 'We believe you’re unsafe, can we please meet you off the train? We want to make sure that you are safe because we’ve received very worrying intelligence.' Everyone would have empathy."

She added: "I asked to change my life for my children. I didn’t ask to be living in fear and getting the police calling me saying people are trying to kill me. Sorry, that was not what I signed up for."

The police arrived to Rebecca's home to remove the man who refused to leave but she said he continued to harass her, despite her legal team advising him to stay away.

Rebecca gave evidence to the Misogyny in Music Committee earlier this year, where she told the story again and said that the "senior industry mogul" advises the Department of Culture (DCMS) under which the committee exists.

Rebecca has released a new album called Heaven Part II which she said is probably the last studio album she will make. This is so she can release her music when she likes.

Despite staying out of the spotlight, Rebecca has continued to be a household name since being on The X Factor in 2010. This year she performed on Eurovision when it was held in her home town of Liverpool.
