Netflix fans make same demand as Squid Game: The Challenge renewed for a second season
The spin-off of the streaming giant's most-watched show ever has also been a hit
by Kirstie McCrum · Manchester Evening NewsNetflix's Squid Game: The Challenge has been renewed for a second series after becoming the streaming giant's most-watched programme across major video-on-demand platforms. There were reportedly over 2million viewers in five days, according to official Barb audience figures.
The programme is a spin-off of the massive ultra-violent South Korean hit Squid Game which broke streaming records when it was screened in 2021. In November of that year, it was named the number one Netflix programme of all time.
And now, with the news that Squid Game The Challenge will be back for more, fans have had their say. It seems they are happy with the spin-off, which takes the form of a contest where real-life players compete in a series of high-stakes children's games to win a pot of cash.

Although participants have praised the accuracy of the programme - saying it was like "stepping onto the screen" of the original drama - fans have a better idea for programme-makers than a second series of the contest. Simply put - bring back Squid Game.

Jackson @JacksonDanny_ agreed, saying: "Honestly I haven't even batted an eyelid at the reality series. Just give me Squid Game: Season 2. We need to see the revenge of Seong Gi-Hun."
DatBoyJaden @DatBoyJadenn is happy for the challenge's second series to follow the drama: YESSSSSSS!!!! But give us season 2 of the original squid game first, and then release the second season of the challenge."
@Shortavelli added: "This is making me wanna watch the original again. Apparently, Squid Game season 2 will probably be released in late 2024."
Shortavelli has been paying attention. The return of the thrilling original series was officially confirmed in June 2022.
Filming for Squid Game season 2 kicked off this summer. Filming for season 1 lasted approximately 10 months, so it may be some time before it comes to screens.
Writer and director Hwang told the Radio Times that the second season of Squid Game presented challenges. "I do realise there are huge expectations for season 2," he said. "I keep asking myself whether I can make it better than season 1. I do not want people to get disappointed over the new season."
