Woman 'assaulted' in Beeston pub as 2 police officers attacked following arrest

A 35 year-old man suffered facial injuries during a disturbance at the scene and was arrested on suspicion of assault

Two police officers were attacked after being called to reports that a woman had been assaulted in a pub.

Police were called to an address in Wollaton Road, Beeston, shortly after 10.15pm on Friday September 4.

A 35 year-old man suffered facial injuries during a disturbance at the scene and was arrested on suspicion of assault.

After being taken for treatment at Queen’s Medical Centre he was also arrested on suspicion of assaulting the police officers.

None of the officers sustained serious injuries but one suffered a kick to the head. The man remains in hospital.

Police have not named the pub where the alleged assault happened.

Inspector Craig Nolan, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “This was a challenging situation to deal with and I would like to pay tribute to the professionalism and bravery of the officers who responded.

“Police officers put their safety at risk every day to keep the public safe. Assaults on our officers simply will not be tolerated and will always be treated with the utmost seriousness.

“We are still working to establish the full chain of events that occurred prior to our officers’ arrival and would like to speak to anybody was witnessed what happened.”
