Woman's family say her daughter will be bullied for her boy's name

Kids can be cruel and sadly a name can often lead to bullying for some children in school.

Whether it's hard to pronounce, difficult to spell or just a little unusual - many will have experienced being teased for their name as a child.

But one mum has taken to Reddit to ask for advice, admitting she regrets the name she chose for her daughter.

The Mirror reports the woman and her husband recently welcomed a baby girl in to the world - but their family and friends were quick to criticise their choice of name.

Unlike many parents who find naming their newborn challenging, the couple already knew exactly what they wanted.

The woman was set on naming their daughter after her father-in-law - but once she finalised the birth certificate she had second thoughts.

She revealed that they'd decided on calling her "Clint Annabelle" as a sweet tribute to the family member, but after sharing the name online they received a lot of hate.

She said: "We both loved the name, but have received a lot of backlash from it on social media and from some friends.

"We were told that it was terrible and would be setting our baby up for bullying in the future. This has definitely made us reconsider."

The mum took to Reddit to ask users whether she'd made a mistake and the overwhelming response was that she had.

One said: "Some names can be used for both genders; Clint is not one of them. You are setting her up for bullying in the future."

Another replied: "Not to mention even if she isn't bullied there’s a chance she’ll hate her name. She’s almost definitely going to by some variant of Annabelle but nobody is ever going to believe her when she says what her first name is.

"Think about her job applications, all official paperwork for years. More importantly imagine you yourself growing up with the name 'Clint' as a woman and see if you still love it."

A third suggested: "Why not go the other way around Annabelle Clint? Less likely to be bullied."

And: "I’m a woman with an uncommon, predominantly male name. I can’t tell you how many times I told my parents that I hate my name or that they must hate me because of my name" added a fourth.

A few others even pointed out that the name sounded a little X-rated and resembled a part of the female anatomy.
