Officers have questioned a woman after a four-week-old puppy was stolen from her owner's kitchen.

French bulldog Bonnie was taken during a burglary in Ipswich Circus in Bakersfield between 3-5pm on Bank Holiday Monday, August 31.

Dog breeder Louise Hollox was left absolutely heartbroken when she discovered Bonnie, a lilac and tan bitch who is too young to be taken away from her mother, was missing after returning home from the park with her children.

She fears Bonnie may already be dead, but insists she "just wants her home".

Police are investigating and now say they have questioned a woman over Bonnie's disappearance.

The 26-year-old has been arrested by police on suspicion of handling stolen goods and has since been released under investigation.

The force is appealing to the public for any more information which could help them with their investigation.

Detective Constable Colin Kirkup, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "We've searched a number of houses, seized a number of items and made an arrest as our investigations continue into this despicable offence.

"We are working hard on this investigation and are carrying out extensive enquiries to locate the puppy and reunite her with her owner who remains heartbroken by what has happened.

"She is desperately appealing for information leading to the puppy's safe return, including offering a £500 reward.

“We are really concerned for the welfare of this animal given its young age and the fact she's not receiving the care and attention which her mum can provide."

Bonnie's owner told Nottinghamshire Live: "I am worried she may already have passed away.

"I just want her home, even if she has passed. I want to look after her and see she is treated right.

"They did not take the four boys, just the girl. I am worried they will try to sell her on or use her as a breeder."

Ms Hollox admits she "sobbed" when she discovered what had happened, and is now offering a £500 reward for any information that leads to her safe return."
