Taylor Swift moved to ‘foreign country,’ stayed in hiding at rental ‘for a year’ after Kim Kardashian and Kanye West feud

Taylor Swift seems like she’s on top of the world, but the pop star recently opened up about how her Kim Kardashian and Kanye West feud was a “bleak” moment.

In a new interview with Time commemorating Swift being named 2023’s Person of the Year, published Wednesday, the “Bejeweled” singer, 33, said, “You have a fully manufactured frame job, in an illegally recorded phone call, which Kim Kardashian edited and then put out to say to everyone that I was a liar. That took me down psychologically to a place I’ve never been before.”

Swift was referring to her feud with Kardashian and her then-husband, West, which started with the rapper’s infamous 2009 interruption of Swift’s acceptance speech at the Video Music Awards, and continued in 2016, when West released the song “Famous.”

In the song, he rapped the line, “I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex/ Why? I made that bitch famous” and claimed that Swift had consented to the lyrics.

Taylor Swift said she “didn’t leave the rental house for a year” after her 2016 Kimye feud.

After Swift denied this, Kardashian released a recording of a conversation which seemed to indicate that Swift was lying and had given the couple the green light. Kardashian also implied Swift was a “snake.”

After calling that a “frame job,” Swift described the incident as among the “horrendous things that happened to me,” and called the experience “Getting canceled within an inch of my life and sanity.”

Following that event, Swift claimed, she moved to “a foreign country,” where she “didn’t leave a rental house for a year.”

“I was afraid to get on phone calls. I pushed away most people in my life because I didn’t trust anyone anymore,” she revealed. “I went down really, really hard.”

Her next album was 2017’s “Reputation,” about which she said, “I was really overthinking.”

Referring to Kardashian alleging that she was a “snake,” Swift said, “I thought that moment of backlash was going to define me negatively for the rest of my life.”

“I’ve been raised up and down the flagpole of public opinion so many times in the last 20 years. I’ve been given a tiara, then had it taken away.”

In 2019, Kardashian claimed during “Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen” that the beef was squashed and everyone had “moved on” from the feud.

One year later, the full phone exchange between West and Swift leaked online.

“The video showed nothing new. We all knew that. I’m so confused right now,” Kardashian tweeted at the time.

Swift, meanwhile, directly shared a message on her Instagram Stories on March 23.

“Instead of answering those who are asking how I feel about the video footage that leaked, proving that I was telling the truth the whole time about that call (you know, the one that was illegally recorded, that somebody edited and manipulated in order to frame me and put me, my family and fans through hell for 4 years)…SWIPE UP to see what really matters.”

One day later, Kardashian tweeted: “To be clear, the only issue I ever had around the situation was that Taylor lied through her publicist who stated that ‘Kanye never called to ask for permission…’ They clearly spoke so I let you all see that. Nobody ever denied the word ‘bitch’ was used without her permission.”

Swift’s publicist Tree Paine shared on her own social media: “P.S. who did you guys piss off to leak that video?”
