Man shot twice in face sitting in driver’s seat of Maserati: cops
by Larry Celona, Khristina Narizhnaya and Sara Dorn · New York PostA Brooklyn man was shot in the face and neck as he sat behind the wheel of a flashy sports car Saturday, and cops are probing the killing as a carjacking attempt, sources told The Post.
Zaid Zindani, 31, was shot in front of friends, one of whom took the wheel in a furious bid to save his pal’s life, police said.
The passenger drove to the 66th Precinct station house, where cops called for medical personnel, a department spokeswoman said. Zindani was rushed to Maimonides Medical Center, where he died a short time later.
The shooting came while Zindani was inside the $100,000 Maserati Quattroporte on 63rd Street near 17th Avenue in Bensonhurst, police said.
Zindani and two friends had been out drinking in New Jersey, and Zindani drove the trio back to New York after the car’s owner had too much to drink, sources said.
Zindani double parked the fancy ride in Brooklyn when a Mercedes drove past, backed up — and one of the occupants pointed a gun at Zindani and his friends, sources said.
Zindani raised his hands in the air, and stepped on the gas, striking the Mercedes as shots rang out, the sources added. The Mercedes drove off.
No arrests have been made.
Zindani lived nearby in Gravesend, where heartbroken family members and friends were in mourning.
Zindani resided with his distraught family, who declined comment.
“They are a nice family,” said one of the neighbors, who noted she saw people crying in front of the house. “I asked if everything is OK and they said someone passed away.”
