'These cases don't go cold': One year later, search for missing Port Alberni man continues

It’s been more than one year since Scott Andrew Bezanson was reported missing from Port Alberni, and police say the search for him continues.

Bezanson was last seen on Dec. 2, 2022, and at the time, RCMP said it was out of character for him not to be in contact with friends and family.

“This week marks a year since Scott disappeared, and no one has heard from him,” said Port Alberni RCMP Const. Richard Johns in a statement Tuesday, Dec. 5.

Bezanson was last seen near Old Nanaimo Highway and is known to frequent the 3rd Avenue area in Port Alberni, according to RCMP in a release last December.

When he went missing, Bezanson, with blue eyes and standing approximately 5’10” tall, was 51 years old, had short light brown hair, weighed 150 lbs. with a slim build and tended to be clean-shaven.

In the update Tuesday, Mounties say Bezanson’s case is ongoing.

“I think it’s important to note that even though it’s been a year now, these cases don’t go cold — they stay open until he’s no longer missing. And he’s still missing, so that investigation is ongoing,” added Johns.

On April 23, Discovery Community Church in Campbell River hosted a memorial service for Bezanson. It was livestreamed on YouTube and included more pictures of him with friends and family.
