After re-opening with a literal bang at the start of November, The Tynemouth Castle Inn has been wowing diners, drinkers and guests to the newest venue on the Grand Parade.

Born out of the transformation of the much-loved Park Hotel, which has stood sentry over Longsands Beach since the 1930s, The Inn Collection Group touch has created an establishment to which people are flocking in droves.

The anticipation that had been steadily building throughout the renovation period was clearly displayed on opening day with more than 100 people gathered outside to be amongst the first to sample the new-look pub with rooms.

Greeted into the opulent surroundings that exude a 1920s-style glamour, impressive first impressions were made as guests settled into the cosy corners and plush furnishings designed by Newcastle-based studio, BXB Interiors.

A sprawling space that occupies almost all the ground floor in the original, art-deco-style part of the building, The Tynemouth Castle Inn offers indoor space for up to 270 drinkers and diners to enjoy the wares on the menu.

The dishes and drinks on offer were sampled in abundance on an opening day where performance outstripped even the most optimistic hopes for the new-look venue, with more than 250 hot drinks, 500 plates of food and 1,000 pints served.

It’s not just as a new place to eat and drink in Tynemouth that the venue has been warmly welcomed but also as a high-quality place to stay, with occupancy rates for available bedrooms at 60% since opening, a figure that spikes to a whopping 96% at weekends.

Now with an inventory of 72 fully refurbished rooms, more than half of which offer a sea view, The Tynemouth Castle Inn is set to be a destination of choice for those who do like to be beside the seaside in the north east.

Whilst the pub and accommodation have already been a roaring success, two more developments have just opened to offer new places to enjoy the quintessential coastal treats.

North Tyneside’s newest fish and chip takeaway, Oswin’s, and ice cream parlour, Cones, threw open their doors at the end of November, taking a real focus on the quality of the product being offered.

Named after the ancient King of Northumbria, Oswin’s is open from noon until 8pm every day and will offer some of the very best of sustainably sourced fish shop favourites, all cooked in either beef dripping or sunflower oil, allowing the shop to cater for all tastes.

Staples such as cod and haddock landed in North Shields and traceable back to the boat that made the catch are all present and coated in a golden crispy batter, alongside favourites not from the sea such as the ever reliable battered sausage and Smokey.

There are also some extra special treats too, with Oswin’s Crispy Mix providing a delightful medley of cod, king prawns and squid, whilst monkfish scampi offers an elevated and luxurious version to indulge in.

Found next door, Cones is a wonderful ice cream parlour that fits in superbly with the art-deco feel of The Tynemouth Castle Inn, with a traditional look and ambience that conjures up a real feeling of nostalgia.

Offering more than 20 flavours of gelato that are made fresh on the premises in small batches, Cones is a paradise for those who prefer a seaside treat to be cool and, with dispensers offering the customers the opportunity to add unlimited toppings, each serving is set to be unique to the person ordering.

Open 10am to 6pm alongside an inn open from 7:30am to 11pm and attractions such as Longsands Beach and Tynemouth Aquarium just a stone’s throw away, this corner of the grand parade really is the perfect place from which to eat, drink, sleep and explore.
