A 76-year-old woman also sadly died in the collision which happened at around 3.35pm. Of the further three people who were taken to hospital, two have now been discharged.

Detective Sergeant Paul Hughes, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "Our thoughts remain with the families who have been affected by this awful collision.

"It remains vital that we fully establish exactly what happened with the five vehicles involved so I'd ask again for anyone who's not spoken to us, but has information to get in touch.

"We'd also ask that people who were driving in the area at the time take a look at their dashcam as it may contain important footage to assist the investigation.”
