Taylor Swift has been named as Time magazine's Person of the Year, with the performer having suggested that this year feels like a "breakthrough moment" in her career.

The singer-songwriter, 33, was announced as the recipient of the honour on Wednesday. She had been on the shortlist as one of nine candidates, alongside the likes of Barbie and King Charles III.

The outlet suggests: "In a tradition that dates back to 1927, TIME’s Person of the Year is the annual designation for the person, group or concept that most shaped the headlines, for good or ill."

She suggested to the outlet that this year feels different. Taylor said: "It feels like the breakthrough moment of my career, happening at 33. And for the first time in my life, I was mentally tough enough to take what comes with that."

This year has seen Taylor embark on her latest tour, the Eras Tour, which launched in March. She's already visited venues in countries such as the US, Mexico and Brazil. Taylor is set to resume the tour next year and is scheduled to perform in the likes of Australia, the UK, Spain and the Netherlands. The tour is due to conclude with a series of concerts in Canada in December next year.

The accompanying concert film Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour was released in cinemas back in October. It has since been announced that it will be available to rent on demand in the US soon, with additional locations set to follow.
