Taylor Swift is Time Magazine’s Person of the Year. capping off an amazing 2023. The global accolade recognises individuals or events with the most significant impact on the world in the past year. Swift, whose Eras tour achieved record-breaking success, joins the ranks of past honorees like Barack Obama and Greta Thunberg.
In an interview with Time, Swift expressed her pride and happiness at receiving the prestigious title. The pop icon discussed the physical toll of her intense Eras concerts, where she performs a 180-minute, 45-song set each night. She said, “I do not leave my bed except to get food and take it back to my bed and eat it there,” while also acknowledging that “I can barely speak because I’ve been singing for three shows straight. Every time I take a step my feet go crunch, crunch, crunch from dancing in heels.”
Swift also opened up about her relationship with American Football star Travis Kelce, emphasising that their relationship blossomed over the summer. To swift she said, “By the time I went to that first game, we were a couple,” she explained, adding they had first hooked up over the summer.
“I think some people think that they saw our first date at that game? We would never be psychotic enough to hard-launch a first date.”
Beyond her personal life, Swift’s cultural influence soared in 2023. The Eras tour not only crashed Ticketmaster’s website due to overwhelming demand but also led to a Senate hearing on the platform’s sales practices. Swift’s career reached new heights, with the tour becoming the biggest concert movie ever, grossing $249 million globally.
In addition to her touring success, Swift released the best-selling record of 2023, a re-recording of her album “1989.” She also secured the second and third best-selling albums in America for the year. Swift’s impact extended to breaking records for most number one albums by a woman in US chart history and being the first living artist with five albums in the US Top 10 simultaneously.
Swift’s influence transcends music, as she became a billionaire based solely on her musical achievements, a milestone unmatched by her peers in the industry. The 33-year-old artist, currently on a break before resuming her Eras tour in Asia and Australia, remains a force to be reckoned with in the music and entertainment world.
