The 2 Johnnies respond to criticism they receive online: 'Who is everyone’s cup of tea?'
The RTÉ 2fm presenters open up about getting hate from trolls on Twitter - and they joked about getting a bra thrown at them at gigs in Waterford and Wexford in the past
by Mikie O'Loughlin · RSVP LiveThe 2 Johnnies have responded to some of the criticism they receive online.
Johnny B and Johnny Smacks admit they are not everyone’s cup of tea, but they love what they do and they are able laugh that off and ignore the comments.

Johnny Smacks told RSVP Magazine: "Who is everyone’s cup of tea? Show me someone that everyone loves. Listen, this is the thing: people like you or don’t like you and you can spend your time pandering trying to get people to like you but f*** it, if they don’t like us they don’t like us."
Johnny B added: "Who does everyone like? Everyone likes McDonald’s, but is that the best restaurant in the world?
"We can only be ourselves. If aliens landed here and they told us to show them our best restaurant, would she show them McDonald’s because it’s the most popular? We can only be ourselves. I don’t know what else to call a spade like other than a f****** spade."
Do they get flack on the street or do they get knickers thrown at them like Daniel O’Donnell does?
Johnny B said: "I haven’t had any knickers thrown at me in a while now."
Johnny Smacks added: "We had a bra thrown at us at a gig in Waterford before, and we got a bra in Wexford last year, a lovely bra."
Johnny B joked: "We should have kept them to hang on the studio wall, but I think we gave them back."
There is also a serious side to The 2 Johnnies fandom.
Johnny Smacks: "We get lovely messages from people saying they went through hard times and the podcast helped them and cheered them up."
The 2fm presenters hit out at anonymous profiles who complain on social media.
Johnny Smacks said: "If you want to go on Twitter and give out, great. If that’s what makes you happy, go and do it!"
Johnny B added: "That’s a bit of a red flag though! What does he do in the evenings? He watches TV shows he hates and goes on Twitter to complain about them."
Comedian Oliver Callan has done an impression of the guys as part of his act.
Johnny Smacks said: "He does both of us, but I can’t figure out which one I am. Mario [Rosenstock] hasn’t done us.
"We are friends with Conor Sketches and we asked him to do us and he said we were too hard to do."
Johnny B continued: "Oliver’s one is funny. The one of me isn’t too bad. He says, 'Lad, everything is amazing'."
The 2 Johnnies Lock In was well received on RTÉ, and there is already talk of a second season.
Johnny Smacks said: "We need to sleep first! [laughs]."
Johnny B said: "This show is demanding and so fluid. Like a guest could fall out of the sky the day before filming. We are also doing two podcasts a week, and radio five days a week as well as getting ready for the 3Arena, which is sold out in December, and our festival, Pints in a Field."
Drive It with The 2 Johnnies airs weekdays, 3-6pm on 2FM; catch up with The 2 Johnnies’ Late Night Lock In on RTÉ Player; and listen to The 2 Johnnies Podcast on Spotify.
